Capacity: 40 or 50 liter internal capacity, 5 liter front pocket, custom side pocket designs available (standard is a water bottle pocket with shock cord above for securing items)
Weight: 1 lb 12 oz (does not include frame)
Frame (2.5 ounces - removable): Carbon fiber with biodegradable plastic bracket attachment (frame composed of arrow shafts and can be easily replaced) - There is a pocket in the rear of the backpack where your back makes contact for a foam pad to add comfort while hiking and double as a sit pad while camping or taking a break.
Closure system: Our bags have a roll top closure with a V strap and buckle. This allows you to fix items to the top of the pack if desired.
Custom options: We offer a high level of customization. We size the backpack to your measurements and we offer a variety of color options. We also have other side panel pocket options available. If you have other customization questions, please don't hesitate to inquire via email.
Accessory items: We offer a few different accessory items for the backpacks including removable hip belt pockets, a shoulder strap pocket, a shoulder strap water bottle holder, and fanny pack attachment buckles to put onto the hip belt (avoid having the strap between the pack and your back, clip the fanny pack right into your hip belt). The thru hiker special includes only 2 hip belt pockets.
Materials: We use X-Pac VX21 as we believe it has the perfect balance between being lightweight and durable. It is a waterproof material however we do not seal the seams. We advise that you use a compactor bag as a bag liner to avoid your items getting damp. We will include 1 compactor bag with each purchase.
Sizing: Please see our sizing tutorial page to get the right measurements for your backpack.
We are seeking hikers who plan to complete 1,000+ miles on any long trail in the United States in 2019 to test our backpacks. We are a new company that is passionate about creating the best possible product for thru hikers as they embark on their life-changing journeys. While we are confident in our designs and our handmade gear and wholeheartedly believe that they will hold up to the rigor of a thru hike, we have not been able to test them as it is difficult to simulate a thru hike and we don't have the time or resources to hike 2,000+ miles while also running our business. This is where you come in. We want you to be our testing crew.
Hikers on our testing crew will receive a significant price reduction (from $285 to $200) and THE FIRST 20 BACKPACKS SOLD COME WITH A FREE 2.5 LITER FANNY PACK!
Included in thru-hiker special deal: In the thru hiker special deal, we will include 2 hip belt pockets and a zlite sit pad for the rear pocket on the pack.
Test Hiker Guidelines:
What we want from our testers:
We ask only a few simple things in exchange for this discount on our gear. We will email you a short survey every 4 weeks asking for an update on the backpack. This will include questions about your base weight, approximate weight of food and water while fully loaded, comfort level, a visual inspection for signs of wear and miles hiked. We also request that you carry a needle and thread or dental floss in the unlikely case that there is a rip or tear on the pack. Sometimes it is easier for you to fix the pack on the spot than for us to incur shipping charges for a simple fix. We believe that the pack will last a thru hike and more, but it's better to be on the prepared side.
If you feel inclined, we would love to receive any photos from you on trail with the pack to put onto our website and Instagram page! Additionally, if you feel the backpack performed well for you, we would love a testimonial email or a product review on our website.
We will be available to support you throughout your hike. If something breaks, rips or tears, we will assess the damage via photos and either instruct you on how to fix it (using a needle and thread or floss) or we will instruct you on how to ship it to us and we will send you a stand in backpack while we fix yours, free of charge. We don't believe that this will be needed however we are prepared to do all that is necessary to ensure that you have a smooth hike with our gear.
If the backpack breaks repeatedly from intended use and you desire a refund, we will retain up to 30% of the pack cost and refund up to 70%. The remaining 30% will cover shipping costs for returning the pack. All refunds will be at the discretion of Chicken Trampers and Chicken Trampers will evaluate if the pack was damaged through regular wear and tear or neglect and ill use.
How to Order:
If you are interested in being one of the first testers out there to rock a Chicken Tramper backpack, email us at Chickentramper@gmail.com with your name, start date and whether or not you have a permit. We will then respond with some information about the offer and a discount code for $85 off your pack.
Our estimated delivery time at the moment is 3-4 weeks and is subject to change according to order volume. We will send you an estimated arrival of your backpack as soon as we receive your order and will get to work once payment is processed. If we believe we cannot get you your pack by your start date, we will notify you.
